Components

Prescription
Required

Pairs a tetracycline and a macrolide — both block bacterial protein production, but at different sites on the ribosome — with grapefruit seed extract for cysts and Japanese knotweed for persisters and inflammation.

The regimen

ComponentTypical adult dose
1
Doxycycline
Tetracycline — take with food, 2 h away from dairy/minerals
Dose: 100 mg, 2 pills 2×/day
2
Clarithromycin (Biaxin)
Macrolide
Dose: 500 mg, 1 pill 2×/day
3
Grapefruit seed extract
Cyst forms
Dose: 250 mg, 1 pill 2×/day
4
Japanese knotweed
Start ¼ tsp and increase after 2 weeks
Dose: ½ tsp 3×/day

Duration: Continue until well

Key points

  • Doxycycline and clarithromycin bind different parts of the ribosome for a stronger combined effect
  • Japanese knotweed adds persister coverage and lowers inflammatory cytokines
  • Take doxycycline with food (but away from dairy) and use sun protection

Why this combination

Dr. Ross builds every regimen around four rules: cover all forms of the germ (spirochetes and round-body cysts), cover Lyme inside and outside cells, combine drugs that attack in different ways, and hit growing and persister phases at the same time.

He stresses that antibiotics alone are rarely enough — immune, sleep, gut and detox support (see Foundation & Herx Support) are essential to reach the success rates he reports.
